Why Have Humans Bred Dogs And Cats To Have Certain Traits?
Humans have been breeding dogs and cats for many years. Over time, we’ve bred dogs to be more intelligent, alert, and obedient. Cats, on the other hand, are often considered less intelligent than dogs but they’re also known as being playful or aloof with humans.
The Domestic Cat
Cats have been domesticated for thousands of years. They were first domesticated in ancient Egypt, where they were worshipped as gods and mummified when they died. Today, cats are popular pets in the UK and America; there are even more pet cats than dogs!
Cats are often kept as pets because they’re easy to look after: all you need is a litter box (or two) and some food bowls. You won’t have to walk them every day or feed them by hand–just let them do their own thing while you go about your life.
The Dog
The dog is the most popular pet in the UK, with an estimated 9 million dogs living with us. It’s also one of our oldest domesticated animals: dogs were selectively bred for companionship and loyalty over 15,000 years ago.
Today, we continue to breed them for specific traits such as size or colouring–but more importantly than that, we’re breeding them so they’ll be loyal companions who love us unconditionally. Dogs are pack animals by nature; they want to be part of a family unit and look after their owners just as much as their owners look after them!
